It is sad news in Bollywood as veteran Marathi actor Achyut Potdar, who was seen in over a hundred films, passed away at the age of 91, this Monday, on August 18th 2025. The actor had been admitted at the Jupiter Hospital, situated in Thane, due to some health complications and yesterday he breathed his last in the hospital. The reason behind his death has still not been revealed to the public.
It is being reported that the last riots and funeral of the late great actor will be done today, on August 19th. The news of Mr. Potdar’s death first caught everyone’s attention when the official Instagram handle of a private channel shared a tribute post for him.
Potdar was one of the most known faces from the industry, appearing in over 125 films across Hindi and Marathi film industry in a career that spanned over 4 decades. His filmography included many all time hits, cult classics and critically acclaimed ventures.
He was part of films like Aakrosh, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Parinda, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Dilwale, Rangeela, Vaastav, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dabangg 2 and Ventilator.
However, the actor is vastly remembered for his role in 3 idiots. Potdar became a pop culture reference across the country as his dialogue “Arey kehna kya chahte ho (What are you trying to say?)” spread like wildfire on social media, courtesy meme pages.
A fact that is not known to everyone is that acting wasn’t the only profession that he tried his hand in. Before entering the film industry, the veteran actor worked at Rewa, Madhya Pradesh as a professor. He later went on to join the Indian Army and served the nation till the year 1967, when he retired as a Captain.
On one hand his acting journey had started as at the age of 44, Potdar entered the film industry so that he could fulfill his dream of acting in the movies. But Potdar wasn’t just working in the movie industry, he had also worked in Indian Oil as an executive for a period of nearly 25 years and retired at the age of 58 in 1992.
