Classic romance Parineeta is set to enchant audiences once more with its return to Indian cinemas on August 29, 2025, celebrating its 20th anniversary in a visually stunning 8K restored version. This special re-release, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, will enjoy a limited one-week run exclusively at select PVR INOX locations across the country.

The restoration marks not only two decades since the acclaimed 2005 musical drama’s debut but also commemorates 20 years of Vidya Balan’s career and 50 years of Vinod Chopra Films. Parineeta, adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novel, introduced Vidya Balan to Bollywood alongside Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt. The film has since become known for its elegant depiction of 1960s Kolkata, evocative storytelling, and memorable soundtrack by Shantanu Moitra.

Producers say the project involved meticulous work at the Prasad Film Labs, making Parineeta India’s first 8K restored classic. The soundtrack has also been remastered in 5.1 surround sound, promising a richer cinematic experience for both nostalgic fans and new viewers.

Reflecting on the milestone, Vidya Balan expressed her gratitude: “Every frame of the film carries a piece of my heart, and I’ll forever be grateful to Pradeep da and Vinod Chopra for believing in me… Even after all these years, people remember the film, the songs, and how it made them feel. People say every frame in the film is like a painting, and that is Pradeep Sarkar’s magic.”

The new trailer, now unveiled, highlights the restored visuals and beloved music, advancing the legacy of a film remembered for its artistry and emotional depth. The limited re-release invites a new generation to rediscover this enduring tale of love and longing on the big screen.
