One of the most known movie directors from India, Mahesh Bhatt was recently on ‘The Himanshu Mehta Show’ talking about her daughter and Bollywood superstar Alia Bhatt. A statement that Bhatt made on the show has gone viral as he nudged upon the always buzzing nepotism debate and stated that he is very happy that Alia Bhatt is a self-made superstar.

Speaking about Alia Bhatt’s journey in a conversation Mahesh Bhatt stated that he didn’t launch Alia and wasn’t even aware that his daughter had so much interest in acting. Bhatt explained how Alia auditioned herself for the Karan Johar directorial ‘Student of the Year’.

Mahesh Bhatt said, “I didn’t launch Alia Bhatt. Karan Johar launched her. I didn’t know she had so much thirst for acting in her. She gave the audition herself. I just got to know they loved her work. I was shocked because I hadn’t seen any such traits in her, even remotely. I’m very happy she’s a self-made girl.”

The filmmaker also shared how Alia’s husband and Bollywood superstar, Ranbir Kapoor thinks that Alia is much more ambitious than what it seems. Ranbir stated that he admires her ambitious nature and drive to do more. Bhatt even compared them too and said while Rannbir is laid-back, Alia is a go-getter.

Mahesh Bhatt also shared Ranbir’s thoughts on Alia. “He says, ‘Alia is made of different stuff.’ When I ask him, ‘What do you mean?’ he says, ‘Her ambition to do more and more and more is unbelievably astounding!’ While he’s a person who’s very laid-back and comforted, and he just wants to do enough. She’s a go-getter,” he said.

Bhatt however, acknowledged that Nepotism is a reality that exists but stated that at the same time it is also true that an acting talent could be born in any household no matter what. The filmmaker highlighted that it is rather easier for those in the movie business to succeed because they are much more well connected and have easy access.

He added, “But it’s definitely easy for them. Because access is success. Talented people don’t even get access for years. It’s important to understand that the voice that’s been raised against nepotism, there’s a collective anger behind that. That’s why we get to hear about that every other day.”
