This Friday, 18th July, marked Mohit Suri’s return to the big screens with his new release ‘Saiyaara’ starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The movie surprised everyone with an impressive first day collection of Rs. 21 crore and genuinely good reviews for its music and performances. However, the movie is being accused of having huge resemblance to a 2004 Korean film A Moment To Remember.

The movie was receiving high praise from people all around as it exceeded their expectations and was earning good collections in what has been a quiet year for Bollywood in general. However, many social media users were quick to point out that the film had heavy resemblance to the Korean movie A Moment To Remember, directed by John H. Lee, starring Son Ye-jin and Jung Woo-sung.

They drew comparisons between the two films on how they show a similar story of a couple whose lives change when the girl is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. The movie showcases the love the guy holds for her as even when she decides to leave, he stays by her side to help her relive their memories.

Many social media users pointed out that allegedly the director has a knack for copying South Korean films like he did previously with Ek Villain. A social media user wrote, “So Saiyaara is based on A Moment to Remember? Mohit Suri and his love for copying South Korean movies. Ek Villain as an adaptation of I Saw The Devil was far apart, as one was an action, revenge drama with no side plot and the other was a romantic drama.”

While some criticised him, others stated that it is a well-made adaptation and stated the director gave it his own flavour and not every filmmaker can do justice to that. A user wrote, “Always remember every top artist copies from one another but you have to give your own flavour while doing and not every filmmaker can do justice or copy another work if they don’t have the talent to do so.”
