Diljit Dosanjh’s last movie Sardaar Ji 3 which starred Pakistani actress Hania Aamir was not permitted to release in India, faced a lot of backlash from the audience due to the recent conflicts with Pakistan. Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who is all set to make his directorial debut Tanvi The Great, weighed in on the matter and stated that he wouldn’t have done what Diljit did in his film.

Anupam Kher in an interview stated that the Singer has full right to freedom of speech and expression and he can exercise it for the sake of art but if it was his choice he wouldn’t have done it. He compared India to his house and stated if someone would’ve slapped his father but was a very good singer, he won’t be inviting them to perform in his house. The actor stated that he has the same rules for his country that he has for his house and won’t see his family getting hurt for art.

Anupam Kher said, “It’s his fundamental right. He has full freedom to exercise his right and he should be given freedom to exercise it. I can say from my point of view that maybe I wouldn’t do what he did. I’d say, ‘You slapped my father but you sing very well, you play very good tabla, so you come and perform at my house’. But I wouldn’t be able to do that. I am not that great.”

“I won’t hit him back, but I won’t give him the right… The rule that I practice at my home, I practice in my country. I am not that great that I could see my family get hit or see my sister’s sindoor get destroyed for art. Those who can do so, they have all the freedom,” he added.

Following the whole controversy, the third installment of the famous franchise Sardaar Ji was not allowed to be released in the country. However, Sardaar Ji 3 made its debut in overseas territories, including Pakistan, on June 27.
