The wait seems to be over as the Electric Vehicle giants Tesla are signalling their entry to the Indian automobile market. They have taken to their newly created social media account on X and dropped a ‘coming soon’ teaser which has elated their fans and potential buyers in the country.

The Elon Musk-owned company is all set to open its first showroom in India in the financial capital of the country, Mumbai. Tesla will be opening its first Indian showroom on July 15th in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. It is being reported that it is expected that by late August the company will be starting the deliveries of its popular Model Y SUVs.

The opening marks the electric vehicle (EV) giant’s formal debut in the world’s third-largest car market. The showroom in Mumbai is being referred to as a “Tesla experience centre” in invitations sent to the media. Initially the showroom will open its doors for VIPs and business partners and after probably a week the general public will be welcomed in the showroom. It is being reported that visitors will be able to compare model options, check prices, and begin configuring orders, possibly as early as next week.

It was a long wait for all the Tesla lovers to see the EV’s debut in India with years of speculations, struggles due to the import duties, and even a cancelled visit to the country by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk in 2024.

However, as per the reports the company will not be manufacturing the EVs in India despite Musk showing interest in investing $2-3 billion in manufacturing locally. Tesla has reportedly imported around $1 million worth of vehicles, chargers, and accessories into India, all mainly from China and the United States.
