As India gear up to face England in the third test of the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy at the fabled Lord’s cricket ground. India’s Vice-captain and star batter Rishabh Pant will have all the eyes set on him as he inches closer to an all time record. Pant currently has 86 sixes and is chasing Virendra Sehwag’s record of 91 sixes in the longest format of the game.
Rishabh Pant has been one of the consistent performers for India in the red-ball format over the past few years. He has been the backbone of the Indian middle order with many crucial and match-winning knocks under his belt. Pant has a very unique style of play with a perfect mix of solid defence and innovative striking
The wicket-keeper batter is known for his clean striking, innovative shots and six hitting ability. He has 86 sixes in his short career and is third on the list of batters with the most sixes for India. Pant stands just behind Virendra Sehwag (91) and Rohit Sharma (88) both of whom were naturally attacking batsmen just like Pant.
What separates Pant from the other two Indian legends is the amount of matches he has played to achieve this feat. It took Sehwag 104 matches to hit 91 sixes in his long career whereas Rohit had hit 88 matches in 67 matches played. Pant however, has played only 45 matches as of yet and is on the cusp of getting this record to his name. It will be interesting to see what the wicket-keeper batsman does in the 3rd match and how he approaches his innings.
India and England stand levelled after the first two tests and the third test will decide who takes the lead clinching the victory at the historic Lord’s ground. India have looked strong in both tests and now with Jasprit Bumrah coming back in the playing 11, the Indian team will be looking to win the match and lead the series.
