According to a media report, Sasha Neha Ahuja had earlier criticized Andrew Yang when he was a presidential candidate.
Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang who is now officially entering the race for Mayor of New York City announced Indian American Sasha Neha Ahuja as his co-campaign manager. According to Ahuja’s Twitter handle and a report in the New York Times, Ahuja is a long-time community organizer and a member of the NYC Commission on Gender Equity joined Yang’s NYC Mayoral Campaign.
Ahuja tweeted: “TY to my village for reaching out & checking in on me. More than anything, I’m honored to be part of the tiny handful of women of color to co-lead a citywide campaign, joining the ranks of NYC strategists who admire.” She also thanked Yang for seeing her leadership.
The New York Times article also highlighted that earlier when Yang was a presidential candidate, Ahuja had criticized him when she hinted that stories of gender discrimination against him could be credible. The story was about Yang allegedly firing an employee after she got married. He had consistently denied the accusations.
As per the NYC Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), Yang hired Ahuja in January. She has served as Chief of Staff at Girls for Gender Equity and Chair of New York City’s Equal Employment Practices Commission. She has also worked at the New York Taxi Workers Alliance.
Ahuja was the Deputy Director of the Policy Division at the New York City Council under the former New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito. In her role, she helped the New York City respond to a national call to action to invest in cis and Trans girls of color. She is an Adjunct Instructor of Social Policy at several schools of Social Work across New York City.
Yang is one of the several candidates running to replace Mayor Bill de Blasio. He is an entrepreneur and through his campaign for President gained national name recognition.
