Aiden Markram was one of the biggest reasons behind South Africa ending their trophy drought with the World Test Championship 2025. Rishabh Pant who shared the dressing room with Markram this year while he was captaining the Lucknow Super Giants congratulated him on his victory.

Rishabh Pant took to his social media account to congratulate his teammate from the Indian Premier League. He expressed his happiness for Markram and appreciated the gritty knock the South African played under pressure in the finals. He also congratulated South Africa for breaking the shackles and lifting the Test mace.

“Well played, Aiden brother. I am so happy for you – what a great knock under pressure. You have made us all proud and congratulations to South Africa on lifting the WTC mace,” Pant posted on X alongside two pictures – one of the whole team lifting the trophy and the other of Markram celebrating with the WTC mace.

The Proteas were facing the Australian side in the finals of WTC. Temba Bavuma, the South African captain asked the Australian side to bat first and his plan seemed to have worked as they dismissed them for 212 runs in the first innings. However, Australia bounced back as their captain Pat Cummins led the charge with the ball taking 6 wickets and dismissing South Africa for a mere total of 138.

Australia came to bat with a lead of 74 runs and it seemed that South Africa was lacking behind in the game but their bowlers didn’t give up and wrapped up the Australian innings at just 207. Kagiso Rabada picked up 9 wickets in the match and was one of the main difference makers in the match.

When South Africa came into bat they were under a lot of pressure because of their first innings performance but Markram and Bavuma had different plans. They both stitched up a partnership of 147 runs taking them closer to the finish line. Markram was awarded the Man of the Match award for his knock of 136 which sealed the deal for the proteas.
