Although the Punjab Kings did not win the championship this year, they played the best cricket that the franchise has ever seen since their trip to the finals in 2014. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the Kings in the final and won their first IPL championship. Preity Zinta, the co-owner of PBKS, posted a heartfelt message for her team on his Instagram account.
The Bollywood actress stated how she loved the courage and fight that her young team has shown throughout the season. She also praised the captain of the team, Shreyas Iyer who led the team from the front leading the scoring charts for them. The Punjab team’s strength was their young uncapped players who stood up and performed for the team in the time of need.
Zinta wrote on her Instagram post, “It didn’t end the way we wanted it to but…the journey was spectacular! It was exciting, entertaining & it was inspiring. I loved the fight & the grit our young team, our Shers showed throughout the tournament. I loved the way our captain, our Sarpanch led from the front & how Indian uncapped players dominated this IPL!”
She thanked the fans who surprised everyone as they showed up in numbers that the Punjab franchise never saw before. She called them the “Sher Squad” and credited them for the incredible performance of the team. Zinta promised her fans that the Kings will bounce back next season and finish what they couldn’t this year.
She stated, “Most of all a HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our – SHER SQUAD – our FANS that stood with us through thick n thin. Whatever we are & how far we have reached is all because of you. I promise we will come back to finish the job cuz as of now the job is still half done. See you next year in the stadium, till then take care n stay safe everyone. Love you all.”
Punjab Kings had one of their best seasons this year finishing the season at the top of the table. They made their second finals appearance this year after 11 years and were inches away from claiming their first trophy.
