After the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first title in the Indian Premier League, Vijay Mallya has pounced on the opportunity to gain relevance and has given a podcast hosted by Raj Shamani. He has come out and claimed that banks have recovered around Rs. 14,000 crore against the loan amount of Rs. 6,203 crore, including an interest of 11.5%.
Mallya spoke about the current situations of his debts and has claimed that the banks had not given the statement of accounts. He stated that he has sent around 15 reminders through his lawyers to the banks and has also written a personal letter to the chairman of State Bank of India. He even requested a meeting with the chairman but was denied by the bank and that is why he had to take matters to the Karnataka High Court.
Vijay Mallya’s total debt of Rs. 6203 crores across his four entities – Kingfisher Airlines, United Breweries, Vijay Mallya and Kingfisher Finvest. While clarifying about the widely reported debt amount of ₹9,000 crore, Mallya explained that he has no idea why he hasn’t got any statement from the banks
“I am the one under attack. I am as perplexed as you are because the banks have not ever submitted a statement to me, which in itself is very strange,” Mallya stated.
It was reported that on May 5th, 2025 Mallya had approached the Karnataka High Court in order to get clarification regarding the loan recovery process of the said banks. He has also requested the banks to give him the statements on the total recovered amounts which he claims to be around Rs. 14,000 crore.
