Abhishek Banerjee is a casting director who has surprised everyone with his acting in his portrayals of different characters like Hathoda Tyagi, Compounder and Janna. Now, the actor has given another stellar performance in his new film ‘Stolen’. The movie is Karan Tejpal’s directorial debut and the film delivers being a gut-wrenching thriller.
The movie is a spicy thriller based on real life incidents and also stars Shubham Vardhan, Mia Maelzer and Harish Khanna. The film has a run time of 94 minutes and is available on Amazon for streaming. The movie is based around the story of two brothers raised in the city who are trapped in a dangerous ride when they decide to help a stranger.
Abhishek Banerjee who is mostly seen in comedic roles had to switch up this time as he was the centre point of this film, he had to be a bit more stoic and sincerer in his performance. His character Gautam is not a typical black and white character but is a very grey character which grows as the film moves forward.
His character isn’t the quintessential hero at the start, he’s cynical, classist and desperate to move out of the mess he has stumbled into. With time Abhishek’s character slowly moves into an arc which is more layered and gives him more texture and by the time he finally rises to the occasion, it feels that he has earned all the right. The transformation in the looks that Abhishek goes through in the movie is also commendable as he comes out as a completely different character as the movie ends.
Stolen is one of the biggest debut ventures from a directorial stand point as it shows the chaos that can surge like fire in a country like India which is so closely knitted. The film shows you the chase sequences which make the main character lose his sanity and just go into a deep abyss and shake you to the core.
