Dr. Sumul N. Raval Honored by New Jersey State House for AAPI Heritage Month

Dr. Sumul N. Raval, a globally renowned neuro-oncologist and community leader, was recognized by the New Jersey State House of Representatives during a special ceremony in the Assembly Chamber in Trenton on May 22, 2025, in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The honor highlighted Dr. Raval’s groundbreaking contributions to medicine, his leadership in the Indian-American community, and his dedication to advancing healthcare equity. 

A Trailblazer in Neuro-Oncology 

Dr. Raval is the founder and director of New Jersey’s first comprehensive Brain Tumor Center at Monmouth Medical Center, the *David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center*, which provides cutting-edge care to patients locally and internationally. His pioneering work includes clinical trials for glioblastoma treatments and leadership in brain tumor vaccine research, earning him accolades such as the GBM Heroes Award from the Society for Neuro-Oncology.

Leadership and Advocacy 

Beyond medicine, Dr. Raval has held key roles in organizations like the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), serving as Secretary and advocating for diversity in healthcare. His humanitarian philosophy—emphasizing quality of life alongside medical treatment—has inspired patients and peers alike. 

AAPI Heritage Month Recognition 

The State House ceremony celebrated Dr. Raval as a symbol of AAPI excellence, underscoring his dual impact as a physician and community bridge-builder. In his remarks, he acknowledged the collective efforts of the AAPI community and reaffirmed his commitment to service, stating, “This honor reflects our shared values of innovation, compassion, and resilience”. 

The event also spotlighted Dr. Raval’s recent nomination for India’s Padmashree Award for his contributions to neuro-oncology and literature, further cementing his transnational influence .
