Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with 38-runs, led by GT skipper Shubman Gill who outshone his batting at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Gill slammed a superb 76 before being knocked out by the umpire’s controversial DRC call leaving the player fumed and agitated. The incident unfolded in the 13th over of GT’s innings when Gill was ruled run out following a tight call at the striker’s end.

The replays of the episode had left the third umpire confused as it was not certain whether the stumps were disturbed by the ball or the wicket-keeper’s gloves. But, the third umpire was ultimately convinced and ruled in SRH’s favour.

Gill, who looked set for a big score, reacted strongly and talked about the incident during the post-match ceremony.  Gill said, “There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes there are so many emotions involved. As you give your 110 percent, there are bound to be some emotions.”

GT posted a first innings score of 224/6 in 20 overs, led by significant contributions from Jos Buttler (64) and B Sai Sudharsan (48).

In response, SRH Travis Head was bowled out after a stunning catch by Rashid Khan. Prasidh Krishna bowled a brilliant spell of 2/19 in four overs, as Abhishek Sharma’s 41-ball 74 went in vain. The result takes Gujarat Titans to second spot, while SRH are all but out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.
