The trailblazing comedy collective Brown Women Comedy is back for the 2025 festival season, promising their signature blend of bold humor and unapologetic storytelling. With the tagline “New look, same savage energy,” the all-South Asian women’s ensemble is set to dominate stages at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, and regional venues across Australia.

Founded by comedian and producer Daizy Maan, Brown Women Comedy has become a vital platform for South Asian female comedians in Australia. The group tackles taboo topics ranging from cultural expectations and queerness to mental health and relationships, delivering laughs that resonate deeply with audiences from all backgrounds. Their 2024 tour was a massive success, selling out 41 shows and drawing over 3,400 attendees across Australia.

This year’s lineup features both returning stars and fresh talent. Melbourne-based Maan will be joined by Guneet Kaur, a RAW Comedy National Finalist and writer for ABC’s Question Everything. The troupe also includes international acts by Niv Prakasam and Ramya Ramapriya from India, adding a global flair to their performances.

The collective’s mission extends beyond comedy—it’s about representation. “The South Asian community is the fastest-growing in Australia, yet our arts scene doesn’t reflect this diversity,” Maan stated. She emphasized the importance of creating spaces for women of color in an industry still dominated by white male voices.

Audiences can expect an evening of unfiltered humor that flips stereotypes on their head. As Maan quipped on social media: “We got a glow-up but didn’t soften—still serving bold & besharam jokes that’ll make your aunty do a double take”.

Catch Brown Women Comedy at Melbourne’s FortyFiveDownstairs (April 9–20) or Sydney’s Riverside Theatres (April 22–26), with additional regional roadshows during June and July. This is comedy like you’ve never seen before—raw, relatable, and riotously funny.
