Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited the Taj Mahal with his family on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Sunak was accompanied by his wife, Akshata Murty, his mother-in-law, Sudha Murty, and his daughters, Krishna and Anoushka. The family’s visit to the iconic monument occurred amidst high security.

Sunak, who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from October 2022 to July 2024, has been spotted at various locations in India recently. Prior to visiting the Taj Mahal, Sunak attended the Jaipur Literature Festival with his wife and in-laws on February 1. On February 2, he attended the India vs. England T20I match in Mumbai and enjoyed a game of tennis ball cricket.

During their visit to the Taj Mahal, Sunak and his family spent around one and a half hours at the site. Sunak and his wife both left notes in the visitor’s book. Sunak wrote, “A truly breathtaking visit. Few places in the world can unite like the Taj Mahal. Our children will never forget seeing this… We are so grateful for the warm hospitality. An unforgettable experience for our whole family. Thank you”. Akshata Murty added, “A memory for the ages”.

Areeb Ahmed, ACP of Taj Security, stated that Sunak and his family received top-tier security throughout their visit, which was conducted in collaboration with the CISF. Large crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the former Prime Minister and his family, who warmly waved and greeted them with folded hands.

Sunak’s visit to India comes after his Conservative Party lost the election last year. He is currently a Member of Parliament for Richmond and Northallerton in Yorkshire. Sunak has also taken on new academic roles at the University of Oxford and Stanford University.
