India Association of Long Island Celebrates India’s 76th Republic Day in Hicksville

The India Association of Long Island (IALI) proudly commemorated India’s 76th Republic Day with great enthusiasm on January 26th at the IALI Center in Hicksville, NY. The celebration brought together over 65 members and guests to honor India’s rich democratic heritage and shared cultural values.

The event began with the ceremonial unfurling of the Indian flag, accompanied by the singing of the Indian and U.S. national anthems. It set the tone for a meaningful and joyous occasion that highlighted the unity and pride of the Indian American community.

IALI President Pradeep Tandon delivered an inspiring speech, reflecting on the profound significance of Republic Day. He remarked:
“This day is a powerful reminder of the courage, vision, and sacrifices of our leaders and freedom fighters who laid the foundation of the world’s largest democracy. It connects us to our roots and reaffirms our shared love for India, uniting us as one community. Let us honor their legacy by upholding the values of peace, inclusivity, and service to society.”

President Tandon introduced the Chief Guest, Hon. Ragini Srivastava, Town Clerk of the Town of North Hempstead, praising her exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to the Indian American community. He stated, “Ragini Srivastava exemplifies leadership and commitment. Her efforts in fostering cultural connections and bridging local government with the community are both admirable and inspiring.”

Hon. Town Clerk Srivastava addressed the gathering, reflecting on the values of India’s Constitution and the significance of Republic Day as a celebration of India’s unity in diversity. She unfurled the Indian flag and presented citations to following individuals for their outstanding contributions:

  1. Mrs. Sampurna Jain – Former IALI President (2005), recognized for her philanthropic contributions and inspiring leadership.
  2. Mr. Sanjiv Chand – Entrepreneur and philanthropist, honored for his business acumen and commitment to social betterment.
  3. Dr. Veena Garyali – Physician and community leader, acknowledged for her contributions to medicine and community service.
  4. Pandit Krishna P. Dixit – Head Priest, Hindu Center, Flushing, NY, lauded for his spiritual guidance and dedication to cultural harmony in the Indian Community.
  5. Pandit Madan Kumar Jha – Head Priest, AsaMai Temple, Hicksville, NY, recognized for his unwavering commitment to spiritual and cultural enrichment of Indian Community.

President Tandon introduced Special Guest, Officer-in -charge Ms. Pragya Singh, Consul (Community Affairs) from the Consulate General of India in New York, highlighting her vital role in strengthening ties between the Indian government and the diaspora. He noted, “Ms. Singh’s dedication to fostering the connection between India and its global community is deeply valued. Her efforts reflect the enduring bond we share with our homeland.”

Ms. Singh, in her remarks, commended IALI for its significant role in preserving India’s heritage and fostering unity within the community.

Community leader and Human Rights Commissioner Dr. Bobby Kumar Kalotee addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of celebrating Republic Day and paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters. He stressed the vital responsibility of the Indian diaspora to honor India’s legacy by fostering unity and engaging in acts of service.

Mr. Jasbir Jay Singh, Chief Editor of Hum Hindustani, addressed the gathering and congratulated IALI for organizing a remarkable celebration of India’s Republic Day.

All past Presidents shared their thoughts on the occasion, emphasizing the pivotal role the India Association of Long Island plays in the Indian diaspora. They highlighted the significance of celebrating and preserving Indian heritage and culture in the United States.

The celebration featured a vibrant cultural program, including a patriotic dance performance by Kaavya Ramani on “Maa Tujhe Salaam” and patriotic songs by IALI members. The program was expertly conducted by Executive Council Member-at-large Mrs. Sushma Kaushik, along with Mrs. Rachna Shahdadpuri, Women’s Forum Chair, and Mrs. Vandana Kumar, Sangeet Forum Chair.

The meticulous organizational details of the celebration were expertly overseen by Vice President Mr. Sushil Khanna, whose dedication ensured the event’s smooth execution.

Guests were warmly welcomed with hot tea and an assortment of delectable snacks, fostering a sense of camaraderie and setting the stage for the day’s festivities. Later, attendees were treated to a sumptuous lunch.

Executive Council Member-at-Large and Building In-Charge Mr. Kishore Malik graciously led past presidents and IALI members on an exclusive tour of the newly expanded and beautifully renovated IALI Center, a project brought to life under the visionary leadership of President Pradeep Tandon, who envisioned a modernized space to foster community engagement and growth.

Secretary Dr. Neeru Bhambri delivered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees, volunteers, and organizers.

The event was attended and covered by Mr. Jasbir Jay Singh, Chief Editor of Hum Hindustani, Pritpal Kaur, owner and Chief Journalist of Preetnama TV, and Mr. Munish Byala, CEO of 5aab Now TV USA. Their efforts highlighted the significance and success of the celebration.

IALI’s Republic Day celebration was a heartfelt tribute to India’s democratic ideals, uniting the community in pride, patriotism, and a renewed commitment to shared values.
