India hails IMEEC Corridor as Historic Initiative in Talks with UAE

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New Delhi on December 12, 2024, to discuss the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEEC). Modi described the IMEEC as a “historic initiative” aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and prosperity, emphasizing its potential to transform economic ties between India and the Middle East.

During the meeting, both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on technology, energy, and cultural exchanges. Modi also acknowledged the importance of high-level visits, including the recent trip by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in September 2024, which he noted as a sign of enduring bilateral relations.

The discussions also covered the current geopolitical landscape in West Asia. Sheikh Abdullah provided insights into regional dynamics, while Modi reaffirmed India’s dedication to promoting long-term peace and stability in the area. He thanked the UAE leadership for their support of the Indian diaspora, highlighting its significance in fostering bilateral ties.

In a statement on social media, Modi reiterated that both nations are committed to achieving unprecedented heights in their partnership and working towards peace and security throughout West Asia. The meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between India and the UAE, particularly in light of their shared interests in regional stability and economic development.
