HCNJ’s 18th annual Health Fair held at Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Secaucus, NJ

Health Camp of New Jersey – HCNJ organized its annual Health Fair for the 18th year at Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Secaucus, NJ on Sunday, October 20, 2024, where more than 200 participated and benefitted from various health screening and disease prevention, education and counseling services for medical, dental and mental health. More than 100 received free flu vaccine at the health fair.

Health Camp of New Jersey, a non-profit organization under tax exempt code 501© (3) has been organizing the health fairs at this location to benefit needy people in the South Asian community since 1998.  

The health fair was open to all pre-registered participants in the uninsured or underinsured categories to receive preventive screening, education and counseling for chronic diseases to include diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, cancer, mental health disorders and pain management and physical therapy & diet counseling. The comprehensive health screening included blood test, EKG, physical examination, cardiology and pain management evaluations, mental health screening and counseling, dietary counseling, physical therapy, various types of cancer screening, prevention and education, women disorders, influenza vaccination and many other services.

The physicians, specialists, mental health providers and allied health professionals which included pharmacists, phlebotomists, EKG techs, medical assistants, nurses, social workers and medical students provided their services to screen and educate patients on various chronic diseases abnormalities and cancer screening and education specifically focused to the South Asian population.  Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli attended the event to appreciate the services from HCNJ and temple’s dedicated volunteers.

To date, HCNJ provided screening to more than 13,000 needy people in South Asian communities throughout the state since its inception in 1998 and detected more than 4,000 chronic disease abnormalities. In 2024, HCNJ provided five health fairs in various areas of New Jersey and screened more than 800 individuals. HCNJ celebrated its 25th Anniversary Gala event in November 2023, with an objective to open a community health center in New Jersey by 2026 to benefit needy individuals and follow-up services throughout the year.
