International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO) is excited to announce the name of Dr. Shubha Tole as IBRO’s first President-elect from the developing world. She will officially begin her term on 1 January 2025.
Shubha Tole’s appointment took place during the organization’s annual assembly in Chicago, USA held on October 6, 2024. Dr. Tole currently holds the position of dean of graduate studies at the prestigious Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India.
“It is a privilege to serve the global neuroscience community through an organization like IBRO that has a network to reach aspiring and practicing neuroscientists worldwide, including those from regions that may not have easy access to resources or networking opportunities. As IBRO’s first President-elect from the developing world, I hope to further IBRO’s efforts towards diversity, equity and inclusion.” – Dr. Shubha Tole
She has held prominent positions within the IBRO Asia-Pacific Regional Committee and the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) and is currently the President of the International Society for Developmental Neuroscience (ISDN). Dr. Tole has also chaired the Women in Science Committee of the Indian Academy of Sciences and actively contributes to the ALBA network, which advocates for diversity in neuroscience.
The International Brain Research Organization, based in Paris, serves as the worldwide alliance of neuroscience associations that advance and uphold neuroscience globally by providing training, education, collaborative research, advocacy, and outreach. The IBRO governing council represents 69 scientific societies and federations from 57 countries around the world.
Dr. Shubha Tole, a neuroscience researcher received her PhD from CalTech and returned to India in 1999 to establish her research programs.
