Former Indian cricketer and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly, 48, suffered a mild heart attack on Saturday and was rushed to the hospital, where he is recovering well, doctors said. He is likely to be discharged Wednesday.
A team of seven doctors is working on the case. Director and CEO of Woodlands Hospitals Dr Rupali Basu confirmed on Sunday that an angioplasty was done and that Ganguly was “doing fine.” Basu confirmed that “there are blocks in his heart, [the major one of which] has been treated … The other two blocks in the arteries are minor and we will deal with them later.”
Ganguly was “gymming at home” when he developed dizziness and admitted himself to the hospital soon afterwards. The latest bulletin on Monday said Ganguly spent “an uneventful night” at the hospital and that echocardiography will be conducted regularly as check-up procedure to monitor his health.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reported to have telephoned Ganguly to inquire after his health.
Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur visited Ganguly at Woodlands Hospital, Kolkata, where the former Indian captain is admitted. Thakur stated after his visit that Ganguly is doing well, thanks to the prayers by citizens of Bengal and India.
