HCNJ’s Health Fair held at Hindu American Temple & Cultural Center, Sri Guruvayoorappan Temple in Morganville, NJ

Health Camp of New Jersey (HCNJ) held its Health Fair at Hindu American Temple & Cultural Center, Sri Krishna Mandir in Morganville, New Jersey on Sunday, August 4, 2024, where underprivileged individuals from the minority communities participated and benefitted from various health screening and disease prevention, education and counseling services.

The health fair was open to all pre-registered participants who are uninsured or underinsured to receive preventive screening, education and counseling for medical, dental and mental health disorders.

The comprehensive health screening included blood tests, EKG, vision screening for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, physical examination, dental screening, neurology, physical therapy, cardiology evaluation, pharmacy and dietary and weight management counseling, various types of cancer screening and prevention education, women disorders, chronic diseases screening for diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders and many other services to include hepatitis B screening, Alzheimer’s screening and access to care services.

The physicians, dentists, physical therapists, nurses and various specialties of internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, mental health providers, Gyn specialists and allied health specialists such as dietary and nutritional specialists, phlebotomists, EKG techs, medical assistants, nurses, social workers and medical students provided their services to screen and educate patients on various chronic diseases abnormalities and cancer screening and education specifically targeted to the South Asian population.

The LabCorp, NJ Commission for the Blind, Screen NJ, NADI, SAMHIN, Legacy Pharmacy Group and many other community and health care and several local volunteer organizations provided their services during this health fair.

NJ State Assemblyman Dr. Herb Conaway, Jr. from NJ’s 7th District attended the event to support HCNJ’s community health screening efforts and recognized Health Camp of New Jersey and Sri Guruvayoorappan Temple with the Senate and General Assembly Joint Legislative Resolution for their contributions to community service.

Health Camp of New Jersey, a non-profit organization under tax exempt code 501© (3) has been organizing health fairs at this location to benefit needy people in the South Asian community since 1998. To date, HCNJ provided screening to more than 13,000 needy people in South Asian communities throughout the state since its inception in 1998 and detected more than 4,200 chronic disease abnormalities.

The next health fair will be on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Durga Temple in Princeton, NJ.

HCNJ celebrated its 25th Anniversary Gala event on November 19, 2023, for a new initiative to open a community health center in New Jersey by 2026 to benefit needy individuals and follow-up services throughout the year.
