In an impressive display of ingenuity and commitment to sustainability, siblings Persis and Ryan Garg, a dedicated track runner and budding wrestler respectively, have spearheaded a remarkable initiative known as SecondVerse Notebooks under their 501c3 non-profit organization, Green Good Guardians. The initiative launched in the summer of 2023 has already made significant strides in promoting sustainability and supporting underprivileged children in the local communities.

SecondVerse Notebooks is a unique project that collects used notebooks from the community through donation bins strategically placed in schools, libraries, and businesses. These notebooks, often only partially used, are then repurposed, and redistributed to meet the educational needs of underprivileged kids and families. This initiative not only champions the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle but also raises crucial awareness about sustainability.

The idea for SecondVerse sparked when Persis and Ryan were clearing out their closets after the school year. After noticing that most of their notebooks were only half-used, they brainstormed and came up with a plan to repurpose the unused pages.

The initiative gained momentum when Starbucks agreed to host a box, significantly increasing visibility and donations. Today, Green Good Guardians boasts over 30+ collection points in schools and multiple local businesses across New Jersey and Connecticut.

Through the SecondVerse notebooks, teachers and organizations working with needy children have received much-needed resources. The Garg siblings’ initiative is not just about repurposing materials; it’s a call to action for the community to adopt the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – in everyday life.
