Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan has emerged as the only Indian film to get nominated for the Best International Feature Film at the 2024 ASTRA Awards, Hollywood Creative Alliance (HCA). The ASTRA Awards is scheduled to take place on January 6, 2024, at the City Market Social House in Los Angeles.
The list of ASTRA Awards nominees features an array of cinematic gems across various categories, including global blockbusters like Barbie, Oppenheimer, Killer of the Flower Moon, John Wick, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Jawan will be competing alongside cinematic masterpieces such as Anatomy of a Fall (France), Concrete Utopia (South Korea), Fallen Leaves (Finland), Perfect Days (Japan), Radical (Mexico), Society of the Snow (Spain), The Taste of Things (France), The Teacher’s Lounge (Germany), and The Zone of Interest (United Kingdom).
HCA is a non-profit organization boasting a diverse and inclusive membership that includes critics, journalists, content creators, industry professionals, and creatives. This recognition follows the success of S.S. Rajamouli’s Telugu blockbuster RRR, which bagged five trophies at the 2023 HCA Film Awards — Best International Film, Best Action Film, Best Stunts, Best Song, and HCA Spotlight.
Atlee-helmed Jawan, the highest grossing film of 2023 from India, is an action-drama featuring an ensemble cast of Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Deepika Padukone and others alongside Shah Rukh. Sanjay Dutt plays a cameo in the film. Jawan revolves around a vigilante out to seek revenge from corrupt ministers and a businessman because of whom, women landed in jail. The film features Shah Rukh Khan in a double role — a soldier named Vikram Rathore and his son, a jailer, named Azad. Deepika and Nayanthara play his respective love interests in the film. Jawan’s ending has teased the possibility of a sequel.
