A pre-recorded message threatening to disrupt the Cricket World Cup sent from a foreign number to Indians

The Gujarat police have registered an FIR against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the chief of the banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), for threatening to turn the Cricket World Cup, starting on October 5 at Narendra Modi stadium, into “World Terror Cup”, as per an official.
In the FIR, the cybercrime branch of the Ahmedabad police said people from across the country had received Pannun’s threat via a pre-recorded voice message sent from a foreign number. Many recipients of the message reported it to the police.
“We are going to take revenge of Shaheed Nijjar’s assassination. We are going to use ballots against your bullets. We are going to use vote against your violence. Remember 5th October, it will not be World Cricket Cup, it will be beginning of World Terror Cup… message from Gurpatwant Singh Pannun,” said the FIR as per the transcribed message.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a law graduate from Amritsar, who reportedly fled to the USA in 2007, founded the now-banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) — espousing the idea of ‘Khalistan’ — and established himself as an attorney of law abroad, has been on the radar of Indian investigation agencies since 2019. Pannun is designated a terrorist by the Government of India.
Facing over 16 criminal cases in Punjab, including three of sedition, some registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Arms Act, Pannun is reportedly known to be operating from Canada and the USA.
