Waheeda Rehman, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 1972 and Padma Bhushan in 2011, will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year by the Government of India. It is the highest award in Indian cinema.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness over veteran actress Waheeda Rehman being bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. “Delighted that Waheeda Rehman Ji has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. Her journey in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark. A beacon of talent, dedication and grace, she embodies the best of our cinematic heritage. Congratulations to her,” Prime Minister Modi posted on X.

Pyaasa, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Reshma Aur Shera are among her memorable films. The actress made her cinematic debut with the Telugu film Rojulu Marayi in 1955. The other actresses who have received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award are Asha Parekh (2020), Sulochana or Ruby Myers (1973) and Devika Rani Roerich (1969).
