India’s great spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and famous Indian actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Jacqueline Fernandez will be steering the annual parade organized by a prominent diaspora organization in New York City to celebrate the Independence Day of India later in August.
The renowned yoga guru Sri Sri will lead the parade for the 41st India Day Parade on August 20 in Manhattan, whereas Fernandez will be the Guest of Honour and Prabhu the Chief Guest at the parade which will run through Madison Avenue.
Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of New York, New Jersey Connecticut, and New England stated that this year’s parade will adorn the theme as “‘Mission of Life” conveying and propagating the values and aspirations that guide our path as a nation and as individuals.
This parade is a grand celebration of India’s rich culture, diversity, and the wholesome goodness of millets on India’s 76th Independence Day, as per FIA. To commemorate the event, FIA is also hosting a ‘Gala on the Hudson,’ a special cruise that will feature singers, celebrities, and cultural performances to mark the occasion and celebrate India’s freedom from Colonial rule.
Being held in the heart of New York City, the parade symbolizes the rich cultural diversity and heritage of India, as the Indian diaspora and members of the Indian-American community from the region come down to Madison Avenue dressed in Indian finery. The parade presents a visual treat to thousands with Indians carrying their national flags and banners, lined up on the sidewalks of Madison Avenue to enjoy tableaus and other festivities of the parade.
Inviting members of the Indian diaspora to join and be part of the annual parade which will comprise dance, musical performances, and theatrical acts. This event will also showcase a variety of authentic cuisines and traditional delicacies from different parts of India as well as handicrafts, textiles, and art.
