The legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after testing positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms. After a few days of being kept under observation, her health is showing improvement as she continues to be in the intensive care unit. The information was shared to her audience by her niece Rachana Shah on her social media platforms.
A tweet on social media by Lata Mangeshkar’s relative Rachana Shah and Rhythm Wagholikar stated that “Lata didi continues to be in the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai under treatment. She has been given a TRIAL of extubation (off the invasive Ventilator) this morning. Presently, she is showing signs of improvement but will remain under observation of the team of doctors headed by Dr Pratit Samdani. We thank each one of you for your prayers and good wishes.” On January 27, 2022, Dr Pratit Smadani revealed insights on the veteran singer’s health, giving a sigh of relief to all her listeners.
Hailed as one of Indian cinema’s iconic singers, Mangeshkar received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in the year 2001. She is also the recipient of several other awards, including the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, and multiple National Film Awards.
Earlier, Lata Mangeshkar’s team had shared her health status through her Twitter handle on Tuesday, to dismiss any “disturbing rumours”. “There is a marginal improvement in Lata Didi’s health and she continues to be in the ICU,” the statement read. Further, they also requested to not engage in rumours or “random messages”.
“Kindly refrain from spreading disturbing rumours or falling prey to random messages regarding Didi’s health. Thank you,” they added.
Fans wished for her speedy recovery in the comments section. “Lata Tai will recover, heartiest prayers from here,” a social media user wrote. “Thank you for keeping us updated. By this way rumours can be killed..wishing our nightingale a speedy recovery..always her fan,” another added.
The team had also tweeted the legendary singer’s health status on Saturday after many false rumours regarding her health caught fire on the social media platform.
Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on January 10, after she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia. She would be under constant medical observation for the next 10-12 days as she has been diagnosed not only with COVID-19 but also got pneumonia. Dr Pratit Samdani, who is treating Lata Mangeshkar at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, had said, “She has both COVID-19 and pneumonia. Due to old age, it will take time to recover properly.” Lata Mangeshkar, 92, was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago. She got in touch with one of her staff members, who was also COVID-19 positive. The singer had been hospitalised in 2019 as well for a serious lung ailment and pneumonia.
Just last month, on December 16, Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar completed 80 years since the first time she sang songs in the studio for radio.
Taking to her Twitter handle to mark the special day, the 92-year-old singer penned a note in Hindi, which roughly translates as: “On 16 December 1941, I sang 2 songs for the first time in the studio for radio after seeking the blessings of late mai and baba. Today, this event is completing 80 years.” Further, she thanked her fans for their love and blessings.
“In these 80 years, I have got immense love and blessings from the public. I believe that I will always keep getting your love and blessings,” she added.
Along with the heartfelt note, she posted a monochrome picture of herself from her younger days.
Fans poured love-filled messages in the comments section. “Pyar aur sneh Lata Ji, thank you for all songs, god bless you,” a social media user wrote. “Lata Didi, there wasn’t anyone nor shall be anyone like you… The Golden Voice,” another added.
Lata Mangeshkar, who began her career in 1942, is a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards.
She is known for iconic songs like ‘Aayegaa Aanewala’, ‘Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logon’ and ‘Babul Pyare’ among others. She has sung over 25,000 songs in over 20 Indian languages.
