Nagaland has added a major hospitality facility with the inauguration of Polo Hotel Kohima, a 56-room property expected to strengthen tourism infrastructure, create local employment and support businesses across the state. The five star hotel was inaugurated by Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav, marking the entry of Shillong-based Polo Hotels Group into Nagaland.
The hotel’s opening comes as Nagaland seeks to attract more domestic and international visitors through its cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and annual Hornbill Festival. The property is expected to cater to leisure and business travellers, as well as tourists exploring Kohima’s historical sites and nearby destinations.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Yadav said investment in hospitality could generate livelihood opportunities, encourage entrepreneurship and strengthen the state’s economy. He stressed the importance of ensuring that tourism benefits local communities through employment and the promotion of indigenous products, cuisine and craftsmanship.
Nagaland Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along described the hotel as an important addition to the state’s hospitality infrastructure and encouraged businesses to invest in Nagaland. He also expressed the state government’s willingness to work with the hotel group to support the sector’s development.
The property incorporates Naga cultural elements into its design, including tribal artwork, traditional woven textiles and architectural features inspired by morungs, community spaces central to Naga life. It also features an infinity pool overlooking the surrounding valley and a restaurant offering Indian, Western and regional cuisines, including a seven-course Naga menu.
The hotel is positioned to accommodate visitors attending the Hornbill Festival, held annually in December, and those exploring attractions such as Khonoma village, Dzükou Valley and Kohima’s World War II heritage sites.
The opening marks a new phase in Nagaland’s hospitality development, with the hotel expected to contribute to tourism growth and wider economic activity.
