Meta Platforms and Google are set to record combined unrealised gains of nearly ₹1 lakh crore from their investments in Jio Platforms, as the Reliance Industries-owned digital services company moves closer to its initial public offering (IPO). The proposed listing values their holdings at significantly more than their original investments made in 2020, according to reports.

Meta, through its investment arm Jaadhu Holdings, holds a 9.98% stake in Jio Platforms, comprising approximately 89.23 crore shares. The holding is valued at around ₹99,866 crore at the proposed IPO price, compared with its initial investment of approximately ₹43,573 crore. This translates into an unrealised gain of about ₹56,293 crore.

Google, which owns a 7.73% stake through Google International, holds approximately 69.09 crore shares. Its investment is valued at around ₹77,387 crore, compared with the original investment of ₹33,727 crore, representing a paper gain of approximately ₹43,660 crore.

The gains are based on Jio Platforms’ proposed IPO price band of ₹1,065-₹1,119 per share. The valuation reflects the appreciation in the company’s worth since the two technology giants invested in it in 2020.

Jio Platforms is planning to raise approximately ₹30,213 crore through the public offering by issuing 27 crore new equity shares. Existing investors, including Meta and Google, are not selling their shares as part of the issue, meaning their holdings will remain intact, although their percentage ownership may be diluted.

The proceeds are expected to be used primarily to repay or prepay borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm, the company’s telecom subsidiary, with the remainder allocated for general corporate purposes.

The IPO is scheduled to open for public subscription from October 21 to October 23, 2026. The proposed listing is expected to provide a public-market benchmark for Jio Platforms’ valuation and mark a significant milestone for India’s digital and telecommunications sector.
