The first instalment of Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited two-part Ramayana has officially been titled ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’, with the makers confirming a worldwide theatrical release on November 6, 2026, during Diwali. The announcement was accompanied by a new poster featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana.
The film will release internationally in Hindi and English and is planned for screenings in IMAX, 3D and other premium large formats. The makers have positioned the project as a large-scale cinematic adaptation of the ancient Indian epic, with the new poster carrying the tagline, “Mankind’s greatest story comes to life.”
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Arun Govil as Dasharath, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha, among others.
Produced by Namit Malhotra, the project is backed by Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and is being developed as a two-part adaptation. The production’s visual-effects credentials have also been highlighted in the promotional campaign, with the makers pointing to artists associated with projects including The Odyssey and Dune.
The film’s first trailer, released in July, introduced audiences to the central conflict between Ram and Ravana and offered a glimpse of the expansive mythological world created for the adaptation. The second instalment is expected to follow in 2027, extending the story across two films.
