The spirit and traditions of Bengali culture will once again take center stage at the iconic Times Square in New York as the Mahalaya and Durga Puja Festival returns for its second annual celebration on October 10 and 11.
The two-day celebration will feature Mahalaya Chandipath, Durga Puja rituals, Gita recitation by children and teenagers, traditional music and dance performances, Dhunuchi dance, and concerts featuring renowned artists from the United States, Bangladesh and West Bengal.
The festival is proudly supported by Desi Natural Dahi and Willow Cricket, brands that share a strong connection with South Asian communities and celebrate culture, tradition and community engagement. Desi Natural Dahi brings authentic Indian-style dahi to families across North America, while Willow Cricket connects cricket fans across the U.S. and Canada through premier cricket programming and digital experiences.
Organized as a celebration of Bengali heritage and community, the Times Square festival brings together families, artists and cultural organizations to showcase the richness of Bengali traditions on a global stage.
The Mahalaya program will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, with Chandipath by Satyam Roy Chowdhury.
A special Gita recitation by children and teenagers raised in New York, directed by Sutipa Chowdhury, will highlight the importance of preserving cultural and spiritual traditions among younger generations.
The opening day will feature a musical presentation by Sangeet Sadhana Academy under the direction of Malabika Chatterjee, along with a major dance showcase featuring more than 60 artists from Nrityanjali Academy, directed by Chandra Banerjee. Performances by artists from BAFA and Adda Academy will also be featured.
The first day will include performances by Shah Mahbub, a popular artist from Bangladesh and New York, as well as renowned West Bengal artist Meghla Das Gupta in a special concert.
On Sunday, October 11, Durga Puja ceremonies will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by Anjali at 3:00 PM. The cultural program will include a special Dhunuchi dance presentation by Nrityanjali artists.
The second day will feature performances by West Bengal artist Diyasini Roy and a special concert by Jojo Mukherjee and his band. Renowned artist Riddhi Bandyopadhyay will also participate as a special guest.
Shashadhar Howlader, president of the organizing committee, said the Times Square Durga Puja celebration has become an important gathering place for Bengalis from different regions and backgrounds, creating an opportunity to celebrate heritage while welcoming the broader community.
The organizers expressed hope that this year’s festival will further strengthen cultural connections among Bengali communities in New York while introducing the traditions, music and spirit of Durga Puja to an international audience.
