Alia Bhatt’s first look from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Love & War was unveiled on Friday, giving audiences their first glimpse of her character in the much-awaited drama. The actor appears in a striking retro-inspired avatar, seated on a chair in a dramatic red ensemble and elaborate feathered headpiece.
The poster, released by Bhansali Productions on social media, places Bhatt against a theatrical backdrop illuminated in red and gold. Her styling, accessories and stage-like setting evoke the glamour associated with vintage cabaret performances. Bhatt shared the poster on social media with the caption “Reunited,” while the makers announced that the film will arrive in cinemas on January 21, 2027.
The reveal follows the release of Ranbir Kapoor’s first-look poster a day earlier. Kapoor was shown in a distinctly vintage setting, driving a turquoise convertible with slicked-back hair, a moustache and round sunglasses. The poster also featured a visibly injured arm, adding a darker element to his otherwise retro appearance.
Love & War brings together Kapoor, Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles, with Bhansali serving as director and producer. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on January 21, 2027. It also marks another collaboration between Bhansali and Kapoor, who previously worked together on Saawariya, Kapoor’s 2007 debut.
Bhatt’s latest look has prompted considerable discussion on social media, with some users drawing comparisons between its retro styling and the visual aesthetics of other recent films. Reports have also noted mixed reactions, including comparisons to Toxic and Bombay Velvet. These reactions reflect individual social-media opinions rather than an official description of the character.
With the makers gradually revealing the principal characters, the posters have begun establishing the film’s visual world ahead of its 2027 theatrical release.
