The trailer of Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan-starrer Udta Teer was released on Wednesday, introducing an action-comedy built around espionage, amnesia and mistaken identity. Directed by debutant Aakash Kaushik, the film is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on October 9.
Khurrana plays Bilal Ahmad, a Pakistani intelligence operative who enters India on a covert mission but loses his memory following an accident. Convinced that he is an Indian, Bilal begins identifying himself as an officer of India’s Counter-Terrorism Squad (CTS), turning his original mission upside down.
The trailer shows Bilal embracing what he believes to be his new identity and attempting to protect India. He is also seen helping authorities track Pakistani spies, while officials across the border struggle to make their former operative remember who he really is.
Sara Ali Khan plays a CTS officer alongside Khurrana. The trailer mixes action sequences with situational comedy, including Bilal’s confusion over his identity and attempts by others to convince him of his past. The film also uses satire to play with familiar conventions of spy thrillers and patriotic cinema.
The three-minute-18-second trailer also features Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Smita Tambe and Mukul Dev in supporting roles.
Udta Teer marks Kaushik’s directorial debut. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain under Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment. Music has been composed by Sachin-Jigar, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
The film marks another collaboration between Khurrana and Ali Khan after their previous appearance together in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Udta Teer will arrive in cinemas on October 9.
