Shradhaa Foundation, a New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, held its Annual Fundraiser on September 20, 2026, returning after a three-year hiatus. The Foundation supports the widows and children of Indian soldiers of Havildar rank and below. In keeping with its tradition, the program featured a military story that honored the sacrifices of soldiers and reflected on the challenges faced by their families, reinforcing the Foundation’s mission to serve those who have given so much in service to their nation.
Distinguished Guest and Recognition
The event was attended by the sitting Member of Parliament from the Anand constituency, who commended the efforts made over the past decade to modernize India’s armed forces. He also praised Shradhaa Foundation for its dedication to reaching communities and families in need.
A Story of Courage, Resilience, and Service
This year’s presentation focused on the family of Late Major Sharma, who succumbed to an infection resulting from wounds sustained during the 1971 Battle of Longeval. At the time of his passing, his youngest son was only two years old. His widow, Mrs. Suraj Sharma, raised their three children with perseverance and determination while building a business despite having no prior experience. She overcame numerous personal and social challenges along the way. Her two sons later joined their father’s regiment, The Rajputana Rifles, while her daughter married an officer from the Jat Regiment.
The event also highlighted a military operation conducted in 1994 in a high-altitude region by the 2nd Battalion, The Rajputana Rifles. The mission was planned by the then-Officiating Commanding Officer, Col Virendra Tavathia (Retd.), co-founder and trustee of Shradhaa Foundation, and successfully executed by then-Captain Uttam Dikshit, who earned the Sena Medal for his leadership during the operation. Col Uttam Dikshit (Retd.), his wife Mrs. Reena Dikshit, and his sister Mrs. Anuradha Jogi attended the event.
Expanded Humanitarian Initiative
During the fundraiser, a group of young members of the Indian diaspora proposed an initiative to support orphaned children affected by ongoing conflicts around the world. After reviewing the proposal, the trustees unanimously agreed to expand the Foundation’s mission to include assistance for such children. In support of the initiative, Dr. Suresh, a member of the Board of Directors of TIE, pledged $5,000 and committed to helping advance the program.
Venue, Program, and Community Response
The event was hosted at Royal Albert Palace, where attendees enjoyed excellent facilities, professional audio-visual support, and a memorable cultural program. Shradhaa Foundation Co-Founder Ms. Seema Jagtiani and President Mr. Rajeev Chaudhary made special efforts to ensure the venue setting reflected the significance of the occasion. The sound system and LED display, provided by Mr. Sharadwala, performed flawlessly throughout the evening. Singers Krishna, Nazi, Rantik, Vidhya, and Prakhar Ghosh entertained the audience with patriotic and inspirational songs. Nazi also served as Master of Ceremonies, delivering a confident and polished performance in her debut role as MC.
The fundraiser received an overwhelmingly positive response from attendees, many of whom expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s mission and pledged additional support. Even after the event concluded, the Foundation continued to receive calls of encouragement and commitments to contribute further toward its expanding humanitarian efforts.
