India’s industrial production growth moderated to 6.7% year-on-year in July, down from a revised 8.8% in June, as mining activity contracted and growth in manufacturing and electricity output eased, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Friday. However, the July reading remained above economists’ expectations of around 6%.

The latest data showed that manufacturing, which carries the largest weight in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), grew 7.3% in July, compared with 9.5% in June 2026. Electricity and gas supply expanded 8.7%, slowing from 11.3% in the previous month. Mining and quarrying, meanwhile, contracted 0.9%, compared with 1.6% growth in June.

Despite the moderation, several segments recorded strong growth during the month. Capital goods output rose 16.1%, pointing to continued momentum in investment activity, while intermediate goods grew 10% and consumer durables expanded 10.5%. Infrastructure and construction goods recorded 6.9% growth.

For the April-July period, industrial production recorded cumulative growth of 6.3%, compared with 4% during the corresponding period a year earlier. The figures suggest that industrial activity remains resilient, although the pace of expansion has moderated from June’s revised performance.
