Yami Gautam Dhar’s upcoming horror-comedy ‘Nayyi Navelli’ is set to hit theatres on October 16, putting the film on a potentially competitive release date alongside Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Jailer 2’. The announcement has drawn attention as both films target the festive-season audience.
Directed by Balaji Mohan and written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, ‘Nayyi Navelli’ is backed by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow Productions. The film will be released theatrically before its subsequent streaming premiere on Prime Video.
The film presents Gautam in an unusual role, centred on a seemingly perfect bride who enters a chaotic household in Meerut and transforms it into an apparently harmonious home. However, the family’s happiness takes a turn when her brother-in-law begins questioning whether the ideal daughter-in-law is actually an otherworldly force. The premise combines family drama, fantasy and horror-comedy elements.
The October release date was also highlighted by Gautam in a playful exchange with her husband, filmmaker Aditya Dhar. After seeing the film’s first-look poster, Dhar jokingly commented about what he had “married into”, referring to Gautam’s mysterious bride avatar. Gautam responded by teasing him about trying his hand at acting and pointed audiences towards October 16.
‘Nayyi Navelli’ marks another distinct choice in Gautam’s recent filmography following projects such as ‘Haq’ and her appearance in Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. The film’s unusual premise, festive release window and reported clash with ‘Jailer 2’ are expected to make its theatrical opening one of the closely watched Bollywood releases of October.
