Actor Ranveer Singh has begun filming for Pralay, Jai Mehta’s ambitious post-apocalyptic thriller, in Mumbai, marking another major project following the success of the Dhurandhar franchise. The film also marks Singh’s debut as a producer, with his production banner Maa Kasam Films backing the project.
Described as a large-scale, VFX-heavy thriller, Pralay is set in a dystopian world and is expected to explore the zombie-survival genre. The film is reportedly being mounted on a budget of around Rs 300 crore, making it one of the most ambitious projects of Singh’s career.
The Mumbai schedule comes after months of speculation surrounding the project. Reports earlier suggested that Pralay had encountered delays and possible creative differences between Singh and director Jai Mehta. However, people associated with the production had dismissed those reports, saying the script was locked and the film remained on track.
Jai Mehta, who has co-written the screenplay with Lootere writer Vishal Kapoor, is making his feature-film directorial debut with the project. The story is set against a post-apocalyptic backdrop, with earlier reports describing it as following a married couple struggling to survive in a dystopian Mumbai. Kalyani Priyadarshan is also expected to feature in the film.
With Singh stepping into production alongside his lead role, Pralay represents a significant expansion of his involvement in filmmaking and adds another high-scale project to his post-Dhurandhar slate.
