Hero MotoCorp is preparing to enter India’s electric motorcycle segment in 2027, marking a significant expansion of its electric mobility strategy with two distinct platforms—UBEX and VXZ. The move signals the country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer’s intent to strengthen its presence beyond electric scooters under its VIDA brand.

The company is expected to introduce two motorcycles catering to different rider segments. The UBEX platform is being positioned as a modular urban motorcycle designed for everyday commuting with adventure-inspired styling, while the VXZ platform, developed in collaboration with US-based Zero Motorcycles, is aimed at riders seeking higher performance in the premium electric motorcycle category.

Both motorcycles were first showcased as concepts at the EICMA 2025 motorcycle exhibition in Italy, where Hero outlined its broader global electric mobility roadmap. Since then, design patents filed in India have indicated that the concepts are progressing towards production, with commercial launches expected in 2027.

Industry analysts believe Hero’s entry could accelerate the adoption of electric motorcycles in India, a segment that remains relatively underdeveloped compared to electric scooters. Established manufacturing capabilities, an extensive dealership network and growing consumer confidence in the VIDA brand could provide Hero with a competitive advantage as rivals expand their EV portfolios.

The VXZ is expected to feature a mid-mounted electric motor, belt-drive transmission, advanced connectivity features and performance comparable to mid-capacity petrol motorcycles. Meanwhile, the UBEX is likely to focus on versatility, urban practicality and global appeal. Hero has not yet disclosed detailed technical specifications, pricing or launch timelines but is expected to reveal more as production nears.
