Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited action thriller King will hit theatres as scheduled this Christmas, ending speculation that the film’s release could be postponed to 2027. The makers have reportedly decided against altering the release plan, with the film locked for a December 24, 2026 theatrical debut despite an unusually crowded global release calendar.
The decision sets up one of the biggest box office clashes in recent years, with King arriving just days after Hollywood tentpoles Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three, both slated for release on December 18. Adding to the competition, Jumanji: Open World is scheduled to release on December 25, creating a blockbuster-packed Christmas weekend for moviegoers worldwide.
Industry observers believe the makers are confident about the film’s commercial prospects, banking on Shah Rukh Khan’s strong fan following in India and overseas markets. Reports suggest that delaying the film would have offered little strategic advantage, as audience anticipation remains high following the actor’s successful comeback in recent years.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King marks another high-profile collaboration between the filmmaker and Shah Rukh Khan after the success of Pathaan. The film is expected to be one of the most expensive Indian action productions and has generated considerable buzz since its announcement.
