India has strongly rejected China’s latest attempt to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. The Ministry of External Affairs called it a “mischievous attempt” that changes nothing.

On Sunday, official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to media queries. He said such “baseless narratives cannot alter reality.” China released a new list renaming 23 locations in Arunachal Pradesh. Beijing calls the state “Zangnan” or “South Tibet.” This is the fifth such list after moves in 2017, 2021, 2023, and 2025.

India made it clear: Arunachal Pradesh is an “integral and inalienable part” of India. “Renaming places does not change ground reality,” Jaiswal stated. New Delhi “categorically rejects” these “preposterous” efforts by China.

This border row has gone on for years. The Line of Actual Control (LAC) is not fully marked between India and China. Arunachal is in the eastern sector of the 3,488 km shared border. China claims the whole state, but India runs it as its own north-eastern state.

India’s firm stand shows no fear of such tactics. Past renaming by China also got the same reply from New Delhi. Experts see this as Beijing’s way to push old claims after the 1962 war.

People in Arunachal Pradesh stand with India. Local leaders say these moves harm peace. The government urges talk to settle disputes, not “creative naming.”

India will keep guarding its land.
