Rajkummar Rao has started shooting for the biopic on cricket legend Sourav Ganguly. The film, titled Dada The Sourav Ganguly Story, began production recently at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The actor shared the news on Instagram with a clapboard photo showing the title. He wrote, “And it begins… The one and only #DADA.” Director Vikramaditya Motwane posted a picture from the Sourav Ganguly Stand at the stadium, marking the official start.

Rajkummar feels nervous but excited about the big role. “It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said. He practiced his Bengali accent, learned from his wife Patralekhaa.

Sourav Ganguly praised the choice. “I think the right person is doing it… I’ll help him with everything,” he said. Ganguly played for India from 1992 to 2008 and led the team to key wins. He is helping with the story, which covers his rise from Kolkata streets to cricket stardom.

Luv Films produces the movie. Shooting plans include Kolkata, Mumbai, London, and more. Earlier updates said filming would start in March 2026, with a possible release by December.

Fans love Rajkummar’s shape-shifting skills in films like Stree and Badhaai Do. This biopic reunites him with Motwane after past work. It promises real cricket action, like left-handed batting practice.

Cricket buffs await Dada to relive Ganguly’s “Dada” era in this sports drama.
